Sextortion/Extortion
Sextortion/Extortion
Sextortion is a crime which originated in the U.S and orchestrated successfully now in South Africa. This mainly related to dating websites, with their main target being male individuals (any age).
How does this scam take shape?
You meet an attracted female on a dating website; she is immediately active and ask you to share your contact details for more private communications on WhatsApp. Their main objective is to learn as much as possible about their target (you) which will become valuable once the managed to complete the next phase. You love the attention and she start sending you explicit/nude pictures immediately she request you to exchange the favor and send a nude picture of yourself with your face exposed so that she can see the ‘’whole package’’, this is when you doomed.
Unbeknown to you ‘’she’’ started conducting a investigation on your identity using true caller, checking out our Facebook profile, figure out if you’re married, etc. armed with your compromising nude picture and your identity ‘’she’’ will start the extortion racket. They will request a sum of money to be paid to prevent these pictures from landing on the internet and/or exposing your secret life to your wife.
While all of this is happening they will start inviting your close associates and your wife on Facebook under false profiles. This is to intimidate you and on numerous occasions they actually exposed their target if you do not pay.
You will be bombarded with threatening messages daily, they are relentless and blocking their numbers won’t help your cause.
They hide behind fake profiles and very confident their true identity cannot be traced, well this is not entirely the case we pride ourselves for our ability to track and trace those who are going out of their way to destroy marriages and careers.
